The Bishop of Ely is pleased to announce that the Revd Canon Nicholas (Nick) Ian Moir, Vicar of Fen Ditton and Rector of Horningsea and Teversham, has accepted the invitation to be next Rural Dean for the Cambridge North Deanery for a period of five year.


Retirement Announcement: The Revd Susan (Sue) Jane Giles

The Revd Susan (Sue) Jane Giles, Vicar of The Anglesey Group, is retiring after nearly 40 years of Ministry of which 10 years in the Diocese of Ely on 10 February 2023. Her last Sunday in the Benefice will be 22 January 2023.

Resignation Announcement: The Revd Canon Adrian Mark Daffern

After a long period of ill health, Adrian Daffern has resigned from his position as Incumbent of St Mary the Great with St Michael Cambridge with effect from 31st August 2022. His position as Rural Dean of North Cambridge Deanery also comes to an end at this point.


Departure Announcement: The Revd Dr Caroline Jane Yandell

The Revd Dr Caroline Jane Yandell, currently Associate Minister, Bluntisham cum Earith with Colne and Holywell cum Needingworth (SSM), is leaving after 9 years of Ministry in the Diocese of Ely. Her last day in the Benefice is 14 September.

Announcement: The Benefices of Fletton, Stanground and Farcet

Further to the Bishop’s Pastoral Order, which came into effect on 1 June 2022, the Benefices of Fletton, Stanground and Farcet are to be kept in plurality by one incumbent. The Revd Andrew James Avery was made an Incumbent of the Benefices (Rector of Fletton and Vicar of Stanground and Farcet).


Announcement: The Revd Sandra Kay Gardner

Further to the Bishop's Pastoral Order, which came into effect on 1 June 2022, the Benefice of Wisbech Saint Mary and Guyhirn with Ring's End, Gorefield and Southea with Murrow and Parson Drove and the Benefice of Leverington, Newton in the Isle with Saint Mary in the Marsh and Tydd Saint Giles are to be kept in plurality by one incumbent. The Revd Sandra Kay Gardner is the first incumbent of the benefices (Vicar of the first and Rector of the second above named benefice).


Announcement: Mrs Sarah Louise Molyneux-Hetherington

Mrs Sarah Louise Molyneux-Hetherington has resigned from the role of Lay Pioneer Minister, Table, Downham Market (Bishop's Mission Order which covers Downham Market; Wimbotsham; Denver; and Bexwell) to moving to full time ordination training in Westcott House. Her last Sunday will be on 25 September 2022.


The Benefice of Saint John the Evangelist, Cambridge

Following the Bishop’s Pastoral Order which came into effect on 1 June 2022 the name of the benefice and parish of Cherry Hinton Saint John the Evangelist shall be altered to “The Benefice (or Parish) of Saint John the Evangelist, Cambridge”. The Revd James Shakespeare is and will remain Incumbent (Vicar) of the Benefice.


Announcement: The Benefices of Fen Ditton, Horningsea and Teversham

Further to the Bishop’s Pastoral Order, which came into effect on 1 July 2022, the Benefices of Fen Ditton, Horningsea and Teversham are to be kept in plurality by one incumbent. The Revd Canon Nicholas (Nick) Ian Moir was made Vicar of Fen Ditton, Rector of Horningsea and Rector of Teversham.


Retirement Announcement: The Revd Sheila Margaret Anthony

The Revd Sheila Margaret Anthony, Rector of Bluntisham cum Earith with Colne and Holywell cum Needingworth is retiring on 4 December 2022 after 14 years of Ministry in the Diocese of Ely. Her last Sunday in the Benefice will be 20 November.


Departure Announcement: The Revd Mark William Pybus

The Revd Mark William Pybus, currently assistant curate in Stilton with Denton and Caldecote with Folkesworth with Morborne and Haddon and the Benefice of Elton will be leaving the Diocese of Ely. He will be serving in the Southwark Diocese whilst training to be a healthcare Chaplain and undertaking research into music therapy/theology in palliative care. His last day in the Benefice will be 31 August.


Appointment Announcement: The Revd Canon Mark Newby Haworth

The Bishop of Ely is pleased to announce that The Revd Canon Mark Newby Haworth, currently Interim Priest in charge of the Claydon Benefice in the Diocese of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich is to be Interim Priest in Charge of the parishes of: Haddenham, Wilburton, Witchford with Wentworth; Sutton, Witcham with Mepal; Coveney. Canon Haworth will also work within the existing Benefice of Ely in the parishes of: Downham, Little Thetford and Stretham. (This appointment is subject to the usual DBS check).


Appointment Announcement: The Revd Jonathan Collis

The Bishop of Ely is pleased to announce that The Revd Jonathan Collis, formerly vicar of St Augustine’s Thorpe Bay and area Dean of Southend in the Diocese of Chelmsford currently holding Bishop’s Permission to Officiate in the Diocese of Ely, is to be Rector to serve in the Benefice of St Botolph’s Cambridge.
