Meldreth Messy Church
After attending a nearby Messy Church we took our time preparing for the first session – enthusiastic but daunted at first, then gradually becoming more and more excited as our willing team completed each task. (What a lot of shopping and publicity to do!)
By the time we were stringing our bunting on the day we had only one question in mind – would anyone come? We need not have worried – the doors opened and a steady stream of families, mostly unknown to us, came in from the cold and immersed themselves in making heart and bead bracelets, Hama bead hearts, woven hearts, decorating heart biscuits and more.
The babies had a soft, warm, quiet area in church with toys and Duplo and our music team played catchy songs as everyone arrived. There was a busy buzz about the afternoon before a more reflective time as we held our celebration in church. Then it was time for our meal – there was little waste. The parents seemed delighted to be offered cakes and tea or coffee and some tucked in to hot dogs too.
Our team has worked hard to achieve this successful first session – lots of planning, talking, praying, shopping, getting to know each other and working out where our skills lay.
Now we feel more confident about Messy Church and are ready to tackle the minor problems we encountered so that session two will be even better!
