Bishop Stephen has enjoyed a growing association with the Comunitá Sant' Egidio since the 1990's because of their very ecumenical approach to their service of the poor and their endeavours to advance the cause of peace with people of all faiths.
Bishop Stephen has also been a bishop accompanying L'Arche UK for ten years and l'Arche International for the last three years. He was invited to represent the Church of England at this year's annual inter-religious meeting hosted in Münster and Osnabrück in Germany this year.
These cities hosted the negotiation of the Peace of Westphalia in 1648 which brought to an end the Thirty Years' War, the most devastating religious war in Europe's history.
Bishop Stephen was invited to speak about people with disability or severe and enduring mental illness as bearers of peace. Here is the text (linked below).
