The Revd Mark Rodel: Fresh Expressions & Pioneer Adviser for the Diocese of Ely

Posted on Monday 3 December 2018
Bishop Stephen is delighted to announce the appointment of The Rev Mark Rodel as Fresh Expressions and Pioneer Adviser for the Diocese of Ely. Mark brings a wealth of experience in this area and will be joining us, in Ely, next summer [2019].

Mark grew up in Kent and worked as a graphic designer in both Kent and Portsmouth before being ordained in the Diocese of Portsmouth in 2005, where he founded two fresh expressions. Since 2012, he has combined a teaching role at St John’s College, Nottingham with his role as a parish-based pioneer in an artsy suburb. Mark is a trained business and personal coach. He is married to Barbara, a primary school teacher, and has 3 children aged 19, 17 and 13. His great loves (apart from his family!) are art, music and cinema.

Mark says of his new role in the Diocese of Ely: “I am thrilled to be joining a Diocese that is so committed to a blended approach to mission at this exciting moment of opportunity for growth. I am really looking forward to becoming a member of a great mission and ministry team as it takes shape. I can’t wait to get started in supporting, encouraging and resourcing people leading new adventures in mission across the Diocese of Ely, as together we engage with communities, grow God’s Church and deepen commitment to God.”

Marks Principal Responsibilities will include:

  • implementing and developing the Diocesan vision and strategy for Fresh Expressions and Pioneering by grounding it in the parishes and through local leadership.
  • encouraging pioneering in line with the Diocesan strategy (ELY2025) as a way of developing healthy churches and leaders and of providing confidence to those already engaged in this sector of ministry.
  • advising the Bishop and Bishop’s Council of developments in the area of Fresh Expressions and Pioneer Ministry.

Please join us in welcoming Mark to the Diocese of Ely (Ely Diocesan Board of Finance).
