The central focus of Setting God’s People Free is the Monday to Saturday following of Jesus beyond the walls of the church.
Over the next 12 months, the Setting God’s People Free pilot aims to provide each participating diocese with a clear vision for long-term culture change in this area, a coherent strategy to move towards that goal and the early steps required to deliver this aim.
The hope is that these pilots will be instructive for the wider Church and provide a basis from which learning and ideas can be shared.
Three events will be held over the course of 12 months, with dioceses coming together to form Discipleship Learning Communities (DLC). The sessions will be highly interactive with lots of work within and between diocesan groups, stimulating conversation and ideas.
They will be supplemented by input from the facilitators and from outside speakers, the aim of which being to create a sense of inspiration, encouragement and accountability.
Linda Church, Director of Ministry at the Diocese of Ely, said of Ely’s involvement: “We are delighted to be part of this inspiring pilot. I am really looking forward to our first national meeting in June and hearing and contributing to the thoughts and ideas that will allow all dioceses and parishes to realise the vision of Setting God’s People free”.
