A MESSAGE FROM BISHOP DAVID
'As my own pension (slowly!) approaches, I am more aware of the great company of retired priests in our diocese: 159 with Permission to Officiate when I recently queried the database, and 23 without. What a wealth of wisdom and treasure of talent that represents! I am also more aware of how differently we are all made and gifted and that 'retirement' will mean quite different things to different priests too. But whatever that is, we salute them, and rejoice that we are blessed with them especially at a time when we have fewer paid clergy available to us. This page is specially for them.'
RETIRED CLERGY HELP AND SUPPORT
The Retired Clergy Officers are available to support all retired clergy in the diocese. They meet annually with the Bishop who invites all retired clergy/spouses/partners/widows/widowers to an annual gathering at the cathedral, which begins with a Eucharist at 10.30 am and concludes with lunch. The date of next year’s gathering is 1st June 2017.
