Introduction to the Policy and Procedures

Introduction to the Policy and Procedures

The Diocese of Ely Safeguarding Policy and Procedures provide an everyday tool for those who work with vulnerable people, including children and adults. It is presented in three sections.

Section 1: Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults

Section 2: Further information

Section 3: Forms and Templates

You do not need to read the whole policy all the way through, but if you are working with children and other vulnerable groups you must read the relevant sections before you begin work and then at least once every year thereafter.

The whole document is provided online to save costs and to allow for immediate updates.

What to Read and When

Section 1: Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults

  • This is essential information which should be read by everyone working with children and adults who may be vulnerable as soon as possible (before you take up your role, if you are new to post).
  • You should also revisit it at least once every year to refresh your memory and make sure you have the up-to-date information

Section 2: Further information

  • You will need to read this section if you have a leadership role in safeguarding and/or if one of the situations mentioned in this section arises (it is also useful background knowledge).
  • Have a quick look at the contents so that you can see, for future reference, the issues covered by the policy and procedures.

Section 3: Forms and Templates

  • Here you will find the forms and templates you need for many of the routine tasks e.g. requests for references, parental consents, making a log of an incident.
  • They have been collected here to save you time. Simply download and adapt as necessary, then print off what you need.
