Assistant Curate (Training post) - West Norfolk Priory Group

The West Norfolk Priory Group is a recently established benefice in West Norfolk, comprising twelve rural parishes on the main London-Cambridge-King’s Lynn train line.

With a population of around 11,000, there is considerable diversity of commuters, agricultural workers, wealthy landowners, and retirees, as well as students and young families. Working with a large team of lay workers, churchwardens, and retired clergy, the incumbent (a specialist in Biblical studies, with considerable experience of rural ministry in Scotland prior to moving to the Church of England) leads collaboratively and strategically in mission in-line with the Ely 2025 vision.

This forward-thinking benefice will enable a curate to work creatively in a range of ministries: there are C of E, private, and state schools within its parishes, as well as care homes; there are many possibilities for conducting occasional offices; the diversity of socio-economic communities and needs goes alongside the privilege of working within a strong team; and there is opportunity for a city attachment alongside gaining significant rural ministerial experience. The benefice is an excellent place to train future ministers for rural, semi-rural, and city congregations; the church traditions are naturally varied (rural middle Church of England).

There is a curate’s house ready in Watlington, within walking distance of the mainline railway station with direct trains to Ely, Cambridge, London King’s Cross, Downham Market, and King’s Lynn.
