Past Cases Review

Posted on Friday 22 June 2018
During 2016, a review was started by the Church of England's National Safeguarding Team of all dioceses in relation to the Past Cases Review (PCR) of 2009 and its continuing legacy.

The Ely Diocesan Safeguarding Adviser (DSA) completed a screening questionnaire and interview in 2016 and answered further information requests towards the end of 2017.

On the basis of the information reviewed by the DSA, the Diocesan Safeguarding Team concluded that the 2009 PCR should be repeated. The Diocese of Ely welcomes the recommendations and guidance of the Independent Scrutiny Team in relation to undertaking a new review. The Diocese of Ely is well underway in initiating this process, which has the full support of the senior team.

In July 2016, the Diocese of Ely was independently audited by the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE). Their findings concluded that case work was sound in the cases audited and showed good multi-agency working. It also concluded that the Diocesan Safeguarding Management Group (DSMG) has very good multiagency representation.
