Green Journey is coming soon to Ely Diocese and churches across the diocese are being encouraged, in a letter from Bishop David, to take up this completely free offer. Green Journey will also carry out an energy audit of the church building, install smart meters and provide a comprehensive report – all for free.
All Saints' Cottenham and St Andrew's, Cherry Hinton have already become pilot churches; as the company negotiates a good tariff for renewable energy, these churches are going to be saving money on fuel bills as well as cutting their carbon footprint. They have found the service very easy to use.
“Green Journey did all the work for us in transferring us to greener companies, whilst saving us £440pa on our gas and electricity bills. They've also provided a report outlining our specific situation and suggesting things we could do to reduce our carbon footprint.”
Revd Karin Voth Harman, St Andrew’s Cherry Hinton
What is involved?
The service has been pioneered in Leeds Diocese, and saved each parish there on average £550 a year in reduced fuel bills, with further savings likely as energy efficiency measures suggested by the energy survey report are implemented.
