Holy Land Pilgrimage led by Bishop Stephen

Posted on Monday 4 February 2019
On Friday 1st February a group set off from Luton Airport to "travel together as pilgrims, building understanding and friendships across our Diocese and beyond our local experience of Church."

Led by Bishop Stephen Conway, the group arrived at Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport, met by their guide and driven north along the Mediterranean coast to the simple but beautiful Benedictine Pilgerhaus on the shore of the Sea of Galilee. They had dinner and stayed overnight by the Sea of Galilee. Saturday 2nd February, they began their pilgrimage with the principal sites of Jesus’ ministry around the home he made for himself by the Sea of Galilee. After commemorating the call of the first disciples in a Eucharist by the Sea itself, they then visited the excavated ruins of Capernaum, as well as sites associated with the Feeding of the 5000, the recommissioning of Peter and the giving of the Sermon on the Mount.
