- Fiona Chesterton, previously a Hamerton resident, will give a talk entitled 'Not the Token Woman'. Fifty years ago Fiona started her career as a TV producer, journalist and editor with the BBC. She was the only woman in her group of eight BBC News Trainees. Fiona will talk to us of the challenges aspiring women like her had back in the 70s and 80s and how she came to thrive on programmes like ‘Nationwide’, where she became the first and only female programme producer. She will tell us some of the funnier stories as well as the news events she worked on, with encounters from everyone from ABBA to Margaret Thatcher. She worked at a time of great political, social and technological change and will remind us of some of the events of those years. The talk is free, but Fiona's books are on sale with all money raised being donated to our Church. There will be a raffle, book signing and a licensed bar.
