We were sorry to hear of the death on 19th September 2025 of Canon Brian Macdonald-Milne. We offer Brian’s brother Alexander and his extended family our sympathy, love and prayers in their bereavement.
Born in 1935, Brian took a BA from Cambridge University in 1958 and an Oxford MA in 1981. In 1958 he went to Cuddesdon to train for ministry and was ordained deacon in 1960 and priest in 1961
He served as Curate at St Peter’s Blackburn from 1960-63 and then moved abroad to serve in the Solomon Islands 1964-78 and Vanuatu 1978-80.
He was acting chaplain to Trinity College Oxford 1980-81 and St Peter’s College Oxford 1981-82 and relief chaplain to HM prison Grendon and Spring Hill at the same time. He became Research Fellow at Queen’s College Birmingham 1982-83 along with serving as Hon Ass Priest at Bordesley, Birmingham.
From 1983-88 he became Rector of Landbeach and vicar of Waterbeach in Ely Diocese and OCM. He then moved to Chelmsford Diocese to serve as Rector of Radwinter with Hempstead 1988-97 along with P-in-Church of The Sampfords 1995-97 and RD of Saffron Waldon 1991-97.
Retiring in 1997 Brian held PTO in Ely Diocese from 1997 and in Chelmsford Diocese from 2002.
In retirement he continued an active ministry as Diocesan Rep to Melanesian Miss. and Papua New Guinea Ch Partnership from 1999 and served as Chaplain to the Ely Chapter of the Guild of the Servants of the Sanctuary 2000-15. In addition, he became Advisor to the Melanesian Brotherhood 2005-13, holding PTO in Melanesia from 2005, becoming Canon Honorary from 2007.
