Archdeacons, as the senior Bishop's Officers, have responsibility for the care of the clergy and church communities within their Archdeaconry.
The Cambridge Archdeaconry encompasses the deaneries of; Bourn, Cambridge North, Cambridge South, Fordham and Quy, Granta, North Stowe and Shingay. The Archdeacon of Cambridge has responsibility for the care and support of these church communities in the south of Ely Diocese.
The role of Archdeacon of Cambridge is currently vacant.

Alex Hughes served as Archdeacon of Cambridge since 2014
It was announced on 8 May 2026 that the Ven Dr Alex Hughes has been appointed as the next Bishop of Brixworth in the Diocese of Peterborough. We wish Alex all the very best indeed and give thanks for all he has given to our church communities in the Diocese of Ely over these past 12 years.
