St Nicolas Church Restoration Group

A special weekend date for your diary

On Saturday, 29th and Sunday 30th April, St Nicolas Church Restoration Group will be hosting their first Art Exhibition in the church and village hall in Hail Weston.

Local artists have been invited to enter their pictures for sale.

The highlight of the weekend will take place on the afternoon of Sunday, 30th of April, when we will be holding an auction giving you the rare opportunity of purchasing a framed watercolour painting by the locally renowned artist, Derek Abel (1925 – 2008).

We have seven paintings on offer, depicting local scenes in and around Hail Weston, and also a large, framed map of the County of Huntingdon from an actual survey made in the year 1829, and published by C and J Greenwood in 1831.

All the items that are being auctioned have been very generously donated to the Restoration Group to raise funds for St Nicolas Church by Simon and Martin Adlam on behalf of his late brother, Nicolas Adlam’s estate. (Those of you who have lived locally, or in the village, for many years will know that the Adlam family lived at The Walnuts, Hail Weston for many years, and that the name lives on in St Neots today as Bernard Adlam founded Adlams Opticians in Brook Street, and Adlam’s Solicitors are still in the High Street).

The highlight of this art weekend is that the Auction will be conducted by the well-known Valuer, David Fletcher (of TV Flog It fame). This is an opportunity not to be missed. Refreshments will be served in the village hall over the weekend, and we look forward to seeing you.
