These pages introduce you to the Senior Staff at the Diocese of Ely, responsible for the spiritual and administrative leadership of the Church in the region towards realising our Diocesan Strategy; People fully Alive: Ely 2025.

The Bishop of Huntingdon
The Rt Revd Dr Dagmar Winter, East Anglia’s first female bishop, was appointed in 2019. Bishop Dagmar is currently serving as Acting Bishop of Ely for the Diocese, which comprises Cambridgeshire, the western quarter of Norfolk, south Peterborough, and some adjacent parishes. Bishop Dagmar is also the sponsoring Bishop for the Diocese, meaning she has particular responsibility for ordinands and curates, and she also oversees our Licensed Lay Ministers (Readers).
Archdeacon of Cambridge
The Revd Dr Alex Hughes is the Archdeacon of Cambridge. Archdeacons, as the senior Bishop's Officers, have responsibility for the care of the clergy and church communities within their Archdeaconry The Cambridge Archdeaconry encompasses the deaneries of; Bourn, Cambridge North, Cambridge South, Fordham and Quy, Granta, North Stowe and Shingay.
Archdeacon of Huntingdon and Wisbech
The Ven Richard Harlow was announced as Archdeacon of Huntingdon and Wisbech on 4th July 2022 and his Collation was on the 25th September 2022. The Archdeacon of Huntingdon and Wisbech looks after the whole of Huntingdonshire, southern Peterborough, north east Cambridgeshire and west Norfolk which includes the deaneries of; Ely, Fincham and Feltwell, Huntingdon, March, St Ives, St Neots, Wisbech Lynn Marshland and Yaxley.
Diocesan Secretary
The Diocesan Secretary is the key lay leader within the Diocese of Ely, accountable as CEO for the governance, finance, and strategic operations of the Board of Finance. The Diocesan Secretary also orchestrates the smooth co-operation of the many independent legal entities that make up Ely Diocese and promotes effective governance.
The Bishop of Ely
The Bishop of Ely is the senior spiritual leader of the Diocese of Ely, providing oversight, guidance, and pastoral support to clergy, parishes, and church communities across Cambridgeshire, West Norfolk, and parts of Peterborough. As a key figure in the Church of England, the Bishop contributes to national church leadership, and works in partnership with civic, educational, and ecumenical bodies to promote the mission of the Church in public life.
Senior Staff
The Bishop of Ely has a Senior Staff team that meet weekly to discuss matters arising within the Diocese of Ely. This Team is chosen by the Bishop and comprises members from across the Diocese.
