Sunday Morning Resources

No preacher? No problem!

The Sunday Morning Resources are a major initiative from the Diocese of Ely.

They are designed to be used by churchwardens and others who are asked to lead worship but who are not authorised to preach.

Initially envisaged as being especially useful to churchwardens in multi-church benefices in vacancy, the resources could be used in any situation where there are no clergy or LLM/Readers available to preach.

We have worked with churchwardens to create a range of material which was trialled with churchwardens in early 2018. Their feedback and suggestions have been incorporated into the Sunday Morning Resources.

Based on the lectionary readings for the Sunday, each resource consists of a homily (sermon) based on the Gospel reading, which is designed to be simply read out in the 'sermon slot' in the service. The homilies have been written by clergy and LLM/Readers in the Diocese of Ely and are intended to be suitable for a wide range of contexts.

The sermons are accompanied by suggestions for the intercessions, tied into the theme of the sermon, and also suggestions for suitable hymns and songs. Some contributors also provide suggestions for all-age worship.

To access the resources simply click on the links below for the relevant Sunday and download the pdf file, which you can then print if you wish.

If you use the resources, your feedback would be much appreciated - please email

Thank you.
