Make Lunch Linton

Fruit and Veg Bingo, new friends and Transforming Lives for Good

An incredible team of volunteers at St Mary's Linton are bringing hope and a future to struggling children and families. The team are supported prayerfully and financially by a wider group of people within their Parish, and work with national Christian charity Transforming Lives for Good, who offer support, training and help with fund raising.

During the Covid pandemic, the team delivered Boxes of Hope (food parcels) across Linton, working with the local schools to identify families who needed extra help. The core team, led by Children and Families minister Sarah Thorne (LLM) at St Mary's, is expanding to include non church-goers, with the extra pairs of hands greatly appreciated, as they now make a hot lunch for almost 50 people during each school holiday.

Children and Families minister Sarah Thorne tells us more about the project, "Our vision is to support families by creating a welcoming community where they can make new friends, meet old friends, and every person is valued. We plan to open as a drop-in café over the summer holidays, with option of a pre-booked hot and healthy lunch.".

A typical Make Lunch Linton session runs from 11am to 2pm, with arts & crafts, a keep fit session and a drop in café.  Volunteers organise crafts and games while the kitchen team are busy making home-made food, with vegan, veggie, gluten-free, dairy-free guests all catered for too. A hot lunch is served at 12 with a fruit and veg bingo session for all the family - the children are very happy to win a cauliflower to take home!

If you would like further information or can help in any way, please email Sarah.
